In a New York City maternity ward, an immigrant couple holds on to their newborn child and wonder about the life he'll lead.

Both parents have fled brutal violence and lawless oppression in their own countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, all in search of something better. But through their memories, and through the future they see for their son in America, readers are taken on a fast-paced journey within personal stories and political histories that prove that for people some people there is no safety. For some people, there is no hiding place.

A well-told story with fleshed out characters and a message that cuts deep. I’d definitely recommend this wonderful read.
